by Sam Byford on November 18, 2019 at 5:20 am

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Nintendo plans to launch paid subscription memberships for its smartphone game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp later this week, according to an in-game news update. The company says one plan lets you “appoint one lucky animal as your camp caretaker and get some extra help around the campsite,” while with another you’ll “receive fortune cookies and store your furniture and clothing items in warehouses.” Nintendo released its latest mobile game, Mario Kart Tour, last month with a surprising optional subscription: a $4.99-a-month “Gold Pass” that unlocks a faster speed mode and gives users access to more in-game items. Some of these titles weren’t slated to arrive until 2020 by Google’s last estimate, but Stadia boss Phil Harrison replied to one of my tweets with this explanation: Yes, we were perhaps a little conservative in our forecast last week and (most importantly) our partners did an… Continue reading…

Ford is set to reveal its first mass-market electric car this evening, the Mustang Mach-E. It’s an all-electric SUV that bears the name of the company’s iconic muscle car, so expect a blend of performance and practicality. The new EV will be unveiled at an event in Los Angeles, California hosted by actor Idris Elba, and Ford’s live stream can be seen above or here on YouTube. Everything kicks off at 9PM ET. The Mustang Mach-E was originally teased in January 2018 at the Detroit Auto Show, back when it was still codenamed Mach 1. Since then, Ford trickled out bits of information (like 300 mile range at the top end, or a partnership with Volkswagen’s Electrify America charging network), and the vehicle has been spotted in typical… Continue reading…
